Saturday Nov. 9th - 8:30AM - Yoga For Our Island: Yoga Mala Practice

On the morning of Saturday, November 9th, studios and yogis across Hawaiʻi will participate in Yoga for our Islands by joining in a simultaneous Yoga Mala.

Most commonly a series of 108 sun salutations, a Yoga Mala may also be 108 rounds of mantra such as the Gayatri or Maha Mrityanjaya, 108 rounds of a kriya, 108 minutes of meditation, kirtan or movement meditation.

While many students may be empowered to reach 108, for accessibility, it is also wonderful to offer variations of 27 and 54 to those who wish to participate at their own ability level. There is much symbolism to the number 108. There are said to be a total of 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra. One of them, sushumna leads to the crown chakra, and is said to be the path to Self-realization.

For this event, we focus on the the heart chakra, as it also embodies the aloha spirit of Hawaiʻi, and our desire to malama our beautiful islands. We are excited about the symbolism of yoga studios across Hawaiʻi coming together, and reflecting on how we can empower greater health, wellness, and vibrancy throughout the islands.

We do hope you will join us for this symbolic event.

Tapping into this vibrant resource, we become more adaptable, like water, we take the shape of our “container” – the present moment – staying open to experiencing what arises. Through direct experience we come to discover and trust in our body’s innate ability to take care of itself, following its wisdom, as we listen, allowing it to show us.

She deepened her yoga as an unfolding though self-discovery with Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten, reconnecting with the feminine inner wisdom and creativity that lies within herself.

Jules continues her study of movement as medicine with somatic pioneer Emilie Conrad, creator of Continuum Movement. Continuum’s teachings have greatly influenced her yoga as movements initiated by the fluid systems become open and spontaneous in full-body awareness. She has experienced and worked with own her energetic field from a holographic module through Resonance Repatterning, as a Reiki Master/ Teacher and Sound Vibrational Healer.

Through her studies and experiences she has developed an understanding of movement in the physical and subtle bodies from a space of centered beingness. Her classes encourage an exploratory, changing, growing and evolving process from the innate intelligence of the bio-system as a responding organism relating to itself and its environment. This practice is a healing and meditative process that encourages and empowers the practitioner by giving their practice back to them.

Saturday Nov. 16th - 8:30AM - 10:00AM - Caroline Delano: Restorative Yoga - Kalani EMAX

Caroline_Delano_300x400Restorative Yoga can be defined as “active relaxation.” In a restorative class, we enter into poses (asanas) using a variety of props: blankets, straps, bolsters, chairs, tables, pillows, walls, and even other practitioners. Being supported and held by these props, one can experience deep relaxation and surrender of the body and mind, which leads to a divine rejuvenation and natural state of healing rest, renewal and equanimity. The deliciousness of this supported practice is that it allows the body to let go. Stress and tensions melt away and we experience balance from the inside out, moving us naturally toward overall peace and harmony.

Saturday Nov. 16th - 1:30PM - 4:00PM - Troy McPeak: Unified Yoga - Finding Comfort in Your Yoga Practice - Kalani EMAX

Yogi Troy - Big Island Coast - CopyEach of us is unique in our own way, physically, mentally and emotionally.  We were all born with different skeletons that affect how we do yoga postures.  We were born with different genes and have had life experiences that have made us who we are as we step onto our yoga mat each time.  Through asana and discussion, this workshop will help you to understand and cultivate the ability to find “comfort” and self-acceptance in your yoga practice and in life.  In our world of rules and feelings of needing to do things ‘right’, the goal of this workshop is to spark an open-minded and different way of looking at your yoga practice, physically, mentally and emotionally.  Come let go of the “right” way to do yoga and learn the “right way for you” to do yoga.  Please dress for gentle movement as we will be doing basic yoga postures periodically throughout class.

Location: Kalani EMAX

Facilitator: Troy McPeak

Troy McPeak is the Director of Unified Yoga Teacher Trainings at Peak Beings Yoga and is a 500 Hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (500 E-RYT).  He is currently based in Hawaii where he leads 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings on the Big Island at Kalani Oceanside Retreat.  He loves to design his classes based on the yogis and yoginis who show up ‘that’ day for ‘that’ class.  They have made a choice to be on their mat for a reason so he tries to cover a wide range of postures with a combination of quicker and slower movements.  He likes to allow the yoga practitioners in his classes the time and place to really be in ‘their’ yoga and to create the space for their yoga experience.  He is passionate about empowering students and helping them to find a yoga practice that is suitable for them.  Learn more about Troy and Unified Yoga at www.peakbeings.com
